Canoe Ramps on the Great Miami River
Than
ks to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Watercraft's Cooperative Boating Facility Grant, Colerain Township residents can now enjoy two new canoe ramps on the Great Miami River!
The ramp furthest upstream is located at the new Heritage Park, 11405 East Miami River Road, which opened in September of 2005. The second ramp is located just over 4 nautical miles downstream at Dravo Park, a baseball field complex that has been around since the 1970's that is slated to be completely renovated and turned into a soccer complex in the fall of 2006.
The Township has received a great deal of positive input from local paddling groups (a member of Cincy Paddlers pictured above). Partnerships between the paddlers and the Township are in the works to construct a sign at Heritage that will detail the portion of the river between the two ramps. Please go to the following link for the Cincy Paddler's web site to view a map on-line: http://www.cincypaddlers.org/great_miami__heritage_to_dravo.shtml . Thanks to a sign grant from ODNR, signs informing paddlers with less knowledge of the area of what to expect ahead such as rapids will be installed this summer.
Anyone interested in a map of the entire Great Miami River which indicates sites along the river including picnic areas, restrooms, camping and boat ramps along with safety tips and boating etiquette, can stop by the Parks & Services office, 4725 Springdale Road, Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Maps have been made available thanks to the Miami Conservancy District through a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Watercraft.
